Don't Chase the Bandwagon

It’s not always wise to follow all the latest diet fads.

Fads.

They're pretty ubiquitous in the health and wellness community, and it's something thats been discussed in this space many times before. Hack this, jump-start that, new and improved theories here, hot takes there.

So. Much. Noise.

We can imagine that, for people who are newer to the lifestyle- and maybe even for some oldie goldies- all the chatter can be extremely confusing. We have a plethora of experts, lots of whom are trying out all the new and exciting theories on how to keto best, and the basics seem to frequently get lost in the latest n=1 experiments.

We're going to make this very clear: we here at Ketogenic Success are in no way, shape, or form opposed to new research or knowledge, new applications, or self-experimentation. In fact, we are excited about the possibilities and promise keto shows for various avenues of health treatment, and we always encourage people to find what works best for their own bodies. At the same time, you need a place to start.

The simple fact of the matter is that the vast majority of our community experts, coaches, podcasters, etc. and so on, started and were successful with standard, old keto. High fat, moderate protein, and very low carb.

Yes, we know, that's not super exciting. It's not new and fresh and what all the hard bodies are doing. It is, however, tried and true. It's what got most of us to where we are now- with dramatic weight loss and health turn-arounds- and for the majority of people, it's probably the formula that will best serve.

The average ketonian also needs to keep in mind that many of these people in the forefront of the community, much as we love them (and we mean that very personally) did not start in the same place or for the same reasons that most people do.

Let's be frank here: Keto is not a panacea for everything, but it does have some seriously promising uses as part of treatment in a fairly wide variety of ailments. But is that what most folks are here for? No, it's not. Most folks joining our groups every single day list "Weight Loss" and "Controlling Diabetes" as the reasons they want to learn about keto. That's not to poo-poo anyone doing keto for other reasons, or to downplay the role keto can have in healing other ailments. It's just acknowledging the reality that a solid majority are in it to try and fix our messed up metabolisms and lose some body fat along the way (or vice versa).

It's incumbent upon everyone to understand that people doing keto as a part of cancer treatment, for example, are going to have a regimen that looks vastly different from what someone that's a weight loss person may do. People ketoing for mental health or for body building are going to do forms of keto that look different as well. And you know what else? People whose metabolisms are normal and are doing keto for other reasons are going to be able to experiment in ways others can't; maybe because their metabolism is busted as heck and it doesn't take kindly to a whole lot of tinkering, or they have an auto-immune condition that flares at the slightest provocation, or for a plethora of other potential reasons.

All of this is OK, and it's a natural part of keto's broadening reach, as long as we keep in mind what got us all here to begin with. We must remember that for most people just looking to lose weight and get their metabolisms working for them again, we don't necessarily have to reinvent the wheel. It's totally OK to watch and see what our community "celebs" are doing (and to love them for being so willing to very publicly try these things out), but that doesn't mean you necessarily need to jump on the wagon with them. Remember, when you see the next Big Name in Ketoland pumping up for the newest thing, there is no diet magic. There is no new tip, trick, or product that's going to have you seeing Henry Cavill or Gal Gadot in the mirror tomorrow morning.

Buckle down, keto on the way it works for you, and don't chase the bandwagon.
